The Effect of Bilateral Greater Occipital Nerve Block on the Treatment of Post-Dural Puncture Headache After Spinal Anesthesia in Cesarean Section: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background and Objectives: One of the annoying side effects of spinal anesthesia in cesarean section surgery is the post-dural puncture headache (PDPH) which occurs 2 to 5 days after the surgery. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of bilateral occipital nerve block (GONB) in the treatment of PDPH after cesarean section surgery. Materials and Methods: In this randomized clinical...

Ultrasonic doppler flowmeter-guided occipital nerve block

BACKGROUND Greater occipital nerve block is used in the treatment of headaches and neuralgia in the occipital area. We evaluated the efficacy of ultrasonic doppler flowmeter-guided occipital nerve block in patients experiencing headache in the occipital region in a randomized, prospective, placebo-controlled study. METHODS Twenty-six patients, aged 18 to 70, with headache in the occipital reg...

Ultrasound-guided greater occipital nerve block for patients with occipital headache and short term follow up

BACKGROUND The greater occipital nerve (GON) block has been frequently used for different types of headache, but performed with rough estimates of anatomic landmarks. Our study presents the values of the anatomic parameters and estimates the effectiveness of the ultrasound-guided GON blockade. METHODS The GON was detected using ultrasound technique and distance from external occipital protube...

Ultrasound-Guided Greater Occipital Nerve Blocks and Pulsed Radiofrequency Ablation for Diagnosis and Treatment of Occipital Neuralgia

Occipital neuralgia is a condition manifested by chronic occipital headaches and is thought to be caused by irritation or trauma to the greater occipital nerve (GON). Treatment for occipital neuralgia includes medications, nerve blocks, and pulsed radiofrequency ablation (PRFA). Landmark-guided GON blocks are the mainstay in both the diagnosis and treatment of occipital neuralgia. Ultrasound is...

Pulsed radiofrequency therapy versus greater occipital nerve block in the management of refractory cervicogenic headache - a pilot study.

The aim of this pilot study was to compare the efficacy of pulsed radiofrequency to the greater occipital nerve versus a greater occipital nerve block with a mixture of local anaesthetic and steroid in the management of refractory cervicogenic headache. We enrolled 30 patients suffering from refractory cervicogenic headache. Patients were randomly allocat...
